Not Here to Condemn

As January comes to a close, this is the last week we will be looking at our fifth core value:
Without the empowering of the Holy Spirit, we can accomplish nothing.

This is also about the time (if not sooner) that most people give up on their New Year’s resolutions. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Remember, we started out the year looking at what we can accomplish with God’s help. We followed that up with a reminder that you don’t have to wait for a special occasion to make changes in your life. And finally, last week, we realized that the Holy Spirit does more than convict us of sin. So we have all the tools we need to make those New Year’s resolutions stick.

John 3:16 is probably the most quoted verse in the Bible, but John 3:17 is just as important: “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.” We don’t like to admit to God when we’ve messed up, but God’s primary goal is not to condemn us.

Likewise, Jesus did not send the Holy Spirit to keep tabs on us and mark down every time we mess up. He sent the Spirit to be a Helper and a Comforter. If you feel like 2017 has already gotten off track, don’t try to hide that from God. Run to Him for help. He put His Spirit within us for this very reason, so that when we reach our limits, we can tap into His limitlessness.

Without the Holy Spirit we can accomplish nothing, but with God, all things are possible.
