Something to Celebrate

Happy Easter! Jesus is alive! We have so much to celebrate today- Our sins are forgiven, Jesus has risen from the dead, the path to heaven is now open for us- no wonder Easter was always my favorite Sunday of the year as a kid.

Actually, we have so much to celebrate every day. God’s mercies are new every morning, so we can always be forgiven. Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father every day, alive and well. We have access to God 24/7 because of what Jesus did for us on the cross. How do we ever get anything besides celebrating done?

I’ve often heard Christians question how anyone can not believe in God. For those of us who have experienced God in our lives, His presence is so obvious that it really can’t be ignored. But many people haven’t had that experience yet, and they are looking at us to see what this God thing is really all about.

Unfortunately, much of the year we give the impression it’s about rushing home from work only to have to rush out again to go to a meeting. It’s about giving up one of our chances to sleep in to drag ourselves to Sunday morning worship. It’s about not going out and drinking or not living with our boyfriend or not getting high.

Surrendering our lives to Christ puts obligations on us and those obligations are not always fun. But they can be done with joy because we are so grateful for everything that Christ has done for us. The things we can’t do can be given up without regret because nothing that interferes with our relationship with God can possibly be worth it.

God has given us so many reasons to celebrate. I love Easter because we all take a break to focus on the biggest reason to celebrate of all-Jesus is alive! Go and celebrate with your church, your family, your friends. Then get up tomorrow and do it again.

With Christ, every day is something to celebrate.
